658 High Street Built 1905     ROCKHILL HOME

This fine late Victorian home was designed and built by local architect and contractor Charles W. Gaby (1868-1918) for Thomas Rockhill (1827-post 1906). J. B. Simpson liked the house so much, he had a similar one built a few lots to the east.

Mr. Rockhill was an 1868 White Pine miner who became a Nevada Legislator in 1870. In 1880, he was elected Senator and was the chaplain of the State Senate. He was a part owner of the Northern Hotel, and owned a restaurant, several office buildings, a millinery shop and a bank.
