2250 South Street Built 1908     DODSON HOUSE

After the railroad arrived in September 1906, the destiny of Ely became apparent. Subdivisions were added to the original city plat and construction of commercial structures and homes began to spring up.

R. E. Dodson, an experienced contractor, came to Ely during this era. He immediately received numerous contracts including the Episcopal Church, railroad building, and many private residences. In 1908, he completed this home for himself and his family. The architecture of this house reflects the southern influence of his wife’s heritage.
